Review of Rocky III (1982) by Brad S — 28 Oct 2014
Rocky has become famous and wealthy. He's starting to believe his own legend. He's close to retirement and decides to fight one last fight. He prepares poorly and just before the fight his beloved manager Mickey - dies. He fights a passionate Clubber Lang who destroys him in two rounds. Embarrassed and ashamed Rocky decides that he must reclaim his honour by fighting Clubber one more time. His long time nemesis, Apollo Creed, helps to train him. The ending of course is predictable but hey that's why you watch Rocky movies.
This is a far cry from Rocky, but Rocky III still deals with issues of fame, wealth, death and loss. I don't want to over exaggerate those themes but Rocky is still enduring enough to make it work.
