Review of Rocky III (1982) by Shane V — 22 Dec 2009
This is the part in the Rocky saga, where things started to really change. In my opinion, this film was the first of the Rocky movies to really be 80's. All the components of a corny 80's movie are in this film, and guess what? I love it. It's very different from the first two, but it's still awesome.
So in the third installment, Rocky has become extremely famous with his win over Apollo in the second movie. He has become a little pretentious, and sort of regards himself as the best of the best. Rocky is now rich, and can now buy anything that he could ever possibly want. But then Rocky is challenged to a fight with Clubber Lang (played by Mr.T). Rocky excepts this offer, but he doesn't really take the training seriously. He gets his ass handed to him in the first match, and to top that, Micky (Burges Meredith) dies.
Apollo Creed does not fight in the ring anymore, and he sees what is going on, and he takes it upon himself to train Rocky for the rematch of the century. This is where it starts to get really 80's. The training montages are completely over the top, and it's awesome.
When the final fight starts, it goes by really fast. It's the shortest fight in the whole saga I think. But it's still very intense, and very fun to watch.
This time around, the acting has gotten much cheesier, but again this is very 80's. Talia Shire now speaks her mind, and she shows no signs of shyness anymore, something that surprised me the first time I saw it.
"Rocky III" may be very different from the first two movies, but I really like it a lot. It's got an awesome feel to it, and the movie pumps you up every time you watch it....believe me after you watch this movie, your gonna wanna go do something epic.
"Eye of the tiger.".
