Review of Rocky III (1982) by Russell F — 06 Nov 2011
Another return to the ring for Rocky Balboa sees Stallone ditch drama for all-out adrenalin-fuelled entertainment. Rocky III is another punchy entry in the series; however, the film adopted a now familiar formula and abandoned any attempt at subtlety or depth.
Featuring Mr. T as Clubber Lang and Hulk "Thunder Lips" Hogan, the film lacks the emotional intensity of the previous entries and instead replaces it with MTV cuts in true eighties style. The introduction of 'The Eye of the Tiger' montage rejuvenated the heavyweight franchise for a couple more bouts; however, Rocky III is lightweight in sentiment and character development.
Nonetheless, Rocky III is an enjoyably entertaining movie, overflowing with testosterone that will motivate you to go out and exercise.
