Review of Rocky II (1979) by Edgar C — 09 Dec 2010
It's surprising that even though in this movie we see a re-match with Apollo, it's not just the first movie done again. It's nice to see Rocky and Adrian get married, and it reallly is romantic, more so than most movies, I'd say.
Rocky's son is born in this movie. This movie to me, was the start of really seeing Adrian and Rocky in love. It's really believable that these 2 are deeply in love unlike most movies. As far as action goes it's pretty much what you would expect from a Rocky film.
One thing that I find could have been done better is the way the re-match comes about. At the end of the first movie right when the final bell rings, Apollo says to Rocky that there won't be a re-match.
For some reason on their way to the hospital right at the beginning of the 2nd movie he decides he wants to fight Rocky again. What the hell? Now later in the movie there is a scene of Apollo getting hate mail, why didn't they move that earlier in the movie and have the hate mail be Apollo's motivation for a re-match? It would have just made for a better movie to me.
This is also the start of Stallone directing a Rocky movie as well. Overall I'd say it's a small step above the first movie.
