Review of Rocky II (1979) by Gabriel G — 08 Jun 2011
I'am the only person in this world that thinks this is better than the first movie. You know in the first movie, you get to experience the pain that Rocky suffers, both before and after he figures out he's fighting Apollo Creed.
In this movie, you see how he reacts to getting a good amount of money for the first time. Sure, he's spoiled at times, but he's still likable, which is something this movie did really well. Also, you get to see how Apollo reacts after the fight as well.
It's a great concept and it's executed to it's full potential. Rocky also get's married and becomes a father, but that's not the main focus. The main focus is pretty clear: Apollo wants a rematch.
At the end of the first movie, Apollo wins, but people believe Rocky should have won, so Apollo, letting his ego get the best of him, decides he wants a rematch. Now, you know the rematch is a big deal because you watched the original and how brutal it got, so not only were the fans in the movie pumped up, so was I.
The fight wasn't as good as the first film, but it was still interesting. Also, my only flaw in Rocky is absent in this film: In Rocky, the film showed plenty of pointless scenes, but this movie had every single scene at least have to do SOMETHING with the plot, which I liked.
Another good thing about this movie is most things were upgraded from the first movie. The training montages were better, the plot was better, it even had more comedic relief than the first. If I had to mention one flaw, it'd probably be the fact that it's a little to similar to the first Rocky, but besides that, I had no big complaints.
It's just an awesome movie.
