Review of Rocky Balboa (2006) by Daver. — 02 Jan 2007
Since when did Drago have a personality, or did I miss something in Rocky IV? Come on, dude. If you're going to make an argument, at least make an intelligtent one. For my part, I felt that Rocky Balboa was the best Rocky movie since Rocky I.
This was a classy, well made, well acted film. It wasn't overly sentimental, it wasn't overly preachy. It is an audience movie, more than anything. During Rocky's rousing exchangees with Paulie in the meat plant and his son outside Adrian's restaurant, as well as with the boxing federation, brought passionate reactions from the audience both times I saw the movie.
They were incredible moments. The training montage...it was electric when that familiar score came back on, and the fight was realistically done with tension and drama. The movie was excellent. It was heartbreaking, sweet, and electrifying.
