Review of Rocky Balboa (2006) by Joshua R — 16 Nov 2012
A wonderful ending to the epic & iconic franchise (we'll just pretend that ROCKY V doesn't exist). ROCKY BALBOA is a nostalgic trip down memory lane for ALL fans of the ROCKY films. My only real complaint would be the casting of Antonio Tarver who plays the franchise's final "villian" if you want to call his character (Mason "The Line" Dixon) that. I personally feel Rocky deserved much better than him. But, at least it wasn't Tommy "The Machine" Gunn, but remember ROCKY V doesn't exist!
All said and done, ROCKY BALBOA was one of the best films of 2006. There were at least a dozen or more scenes that were so full of nostalgia that it was difficult not to notice my eyes beginning to tear up and feeling a sad but fulfilledsmile growing on my face and the chills going through my body. Three cheers for Mr. Stallone who against all odds has somehow managed to capture lightning in a bottle and bookend the series with a finale that is equal to the original. A-.
