I read this blurb and totally agreed so I copied it: "Rocky is a great film: it is the ultimate expression of the underdog taking his last chance and proving himself not to be a loser in life despite losing in the ring. Balboa is the posterboy for the underachieving, no-hoper, who emerges with his dignity intact and a girl in tow, because he sticks to his convictions and gives the champ a real fight. And the fact that he lost was very important, because it underlined the inherent tragedy in his life and offered a distinct counter-point to his successful relationship with Adrien.".

Anyone that thinks Rocky is about boxing doesn't understand film making at all.

Add to this the real-life story behind Rocky and it only gets more awesome. Sylvester Stallone wrote Rocky himself, for himself as the lead actor. He did this while being a waiter at the time and was offered a pretty good sum of money by a studio (hundreds of thousands of dollars) for the rights to make it but he turned them down because they would have cast someone else in the lead role and instead he got B-movie funding and made it on a budget himself and the rest is history.
