Review of Rockstar (2011) by Gaurav T — 12 Nov 2011
Yesterday, I had two options, two movies to watch. One was the highly acclaimed 'Rise of the planet of apes'..and the second one was the newcomer, 'Rockstar'. I knew, how most of the times, Bollywood movies disappoints me, but still I gave a shot at it, partly because it's always nice to critique something which is being loved by majority ;-).
The movie started like most of the Bollywood flicks starts, with a loser type guy who wants something big in life, so he befriends a girl and Blah..blah..blah. There are always some comedic punches in it, some dance numbers, some ultra flawed fighting sequence, etc. But, this one didn't have them. This one showed the differences very soon.
The best part, to start with, of the movie was its Music. Damn! awesome. A.R.Rahman proved yet again, that he is the best.
Music was the soul of the movie, and the blood too. One simple fault in it, would have made the movie, a Disaster.
The second best part was Ranbir Kapoor. Superb piece of acting, he gave in there. The whole acting part fell only when it came to 'Nargis'..She couldn't be called an actress after what she had done in the movie. Even kids nowadays act better than her. If the movie gets any bad criticism, it will only be because of her. I have no idea why Imtiaz ali chose her. Because of that, I will have to give him negative points too.
The story, well, was just Ok. There was nothing special in the story, except for the flaws in the second half.
Imtiaz Ali did a good job too. His direction and the script did a pretty good Job in developing Ranbir's Character. But, I didn't find much work in Nargis's character. It was kind of shallow, and unpredictable.
All in all, a very good work, for Indian Cinema, at the least.
