Review of Rockstar (2011) by Tushar A — 22 Nov 2011
First of all, I am a sucker for tragic, intense, unfulfilled love and then to have great songs on top of that is a treat. Rockstar has it all. Imtiaz Ali is getting better and better at making cinema. His song picturisation, a real talent and a special craft in the world of Hind cinema, is just fabulous.
Ranbir has an author backed role and does a very good job. Nargis Fakhri is a bit irritating and too pouty but quite pretty in that unattainable sort of way, which is what the script demanded I suppose.
Most of all though the script is the king and the way the story went back and forth made it more interesting than a linear narrative would have. I would recommend this film. It is different from the run of the mill Hindi cinema yet fits very well within the parameters of the mainstream.
Just a tad bit long.
