Review of RocknRolla (2008) by Andrew K — 29 Aug 2010
RocknRolla is a refreshing funny as hell welcome back for director Guy Ritchie. The British director is back with his slam-bang slapstick style of violence, comedy, and crime. It's a change of pace for Ritchie who usually directs darker British gangster films like Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Revolver, this film is more of a comedic turn for him. It's a tightly woven tale of gangsters, petty thieves, accountants, and contractors in modern day London, only a Guy Ritchie film can feature this much going on at one time.
The acting is great, Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Thandie Newton, Mark Strong, Idris Elba, and Tom Hardy are all excellent as their respective characters. Thus movie also features a blazing soundtrack and a great story. It's an in your face smack of sex, thugs, and rock n roll.
