Review of RocknRolla (2008) by Hari A — 04 Oct 2012
Guy Ritchie films have a knack of following a very familiar path. British, sarcastic, comic, gangsters with cool lines and very fast paced, Rock n Rolla is no exception. Familiarity apart, his movies nonetheless are very entertaining. And so is this one. Lenny Cole (Tom Wilkinson) makes a land scam deal with the Russian mobster Uri Obamavich (Karel Roden) involving huge sums of money, and the transaction goes haywire with the entry of petty criminals who want a piece of the action. Any Guy Ritchie fan could decipher the rest. Mayhem and fun at its best with some stellar music.
But, compared to "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" this one disappointed me a bit. The entertainment factor did not touch the levels attained by those two masterpieces. The acting was brilliant, the attitude was flaring and the story was superb. But there was just some small thing that was missing that kept this one from touching the brilliance aquired by those two movies.
Still, a very worthy addition to the "Best of British" list.
