Review of RocketMan (1997) by Danielle C — 17 Dec 2007
This movie is funny! It really fits in no typical molds. It doesn't try to be popular or try to be other movies. It isn't a movie that tries to mock pop culture, it isn't a parady, it isn't a teen comedy, it isn't a little kid comedy, it isn't even a comedy for "the whole family". It didn't ride the wave of what was popular at the time - Neither Harland Williams OR Rocket Men were ever popular. But somehow DISNEY (yes I said DISNEY) made a clean and funny movie that is hilarious and likable. Is it cheesey? Absolutely. But Fred Randall is so sincere and quick to the comedy that I couldn't help but laugh!
Looking for crass comedy? This isn't the place. Looking for dry whit? Not this movie. Pop culture references? Not here.
This movie is smart though on the surface it pretends not to be. Funny.
