Review of Rocket Science (2007) by Josh C — 28 Mar 2008
Great movie but gets way too inconsistent at times.
For the first half or so, its very Juno-esque and has tons of quotable lines. Anna Kendrick is going to be huge one of these days and standouts in all of her scenes. the lead really takes quite some time to grow on you, though. the stutter seems authentic, but the character seems way too immature for his age.
Once the girl goes away and the ex-debater comes back into the picture, the movie becomes an entirely different kind of movie and it feels weird. not the great witty comedy that was the first half.
The ending is quick and unexpected, but it works and is successful in my mind. there actually is more resolution to all the storylines than you'd first think after watching it. and the music that occasionally plays throughout the movie is great.
