Review of Rocket Science (2007) by Jen M — 02 Jan 2009
Jeffrey Blitz, director of the terrific documentary Spellbound, writes and directs this quirky coming-of-age comedy about a high school sophomore (Reece Thompson in a terrific and understated performance) with a stutter, who is recruited into the debate team in order to find his voice.
Blitz uses his first foray into narrative filmmaking to build upon the themes he explored in his documentary and craft a wonderfully odd yet seemingly real portrait of the awkwardness of high school - the days when we all try to find our true voices.
