Review of Rocket Science (2007) by William L — 04 Jun 2010
I'm glad I followed Jason Reitman's advice. In the DVD commentary to his "Up in the Air," Reitman says he cast Anna Kendrick as Natalie based on her performance in "Rocket Science," and to go rent it.
Kendrick doesn't disappoint, as her Ginny here comes off as a more evil version of the high-strung, uber-ambitious Natalie, with none of Natalie's vulnerabilities or naïveté. Reece Thompson is a pleasant surprise, perfectly capturing the awkwardness, earnestness, and frustration of the high school outsider.
As a former high school debater from New Jersey, "Rocket Science" gets my vote.
