Review of Rock Star (2001) by Josh M — 17 Aug 2010
General Opinion:
Rock Star has a typical and very predictable plot-line, however, a strong lead performance by Wahlberg and good direction lead this to be a solid film.
Acting:
Mark Wahlberg does a great job portraying an extremely dedicated and emotional rocker yearning for stardom. Jennifer Anniston plays the girlfriend, and she supports Wahlberg's character nicely. Even the minor characters do their job well.
8/10.
Entertainment:
This never kept me entranced like a movie such as Inception would, but it was still interesting throughout. While it WAS entertaining, being a movie about rock n' roll, I felt like there could have been more punch.
6/10.
Plot:
This rock star tale has been told hundreds of times before, and it eventually grows old. It was very predictable beginning to end besides a few twists and turns here and there.
5/10.
Replay Value:
This is not one of those movies that you are going to want to watch many times for utter enjoyment or to pick up on things you missed. I feel like it will just end up being a dusting DVD/Blu-Ray disc if you choose to buy it. However, it is definitely a good movie to watch from time to time.
5/10.
Conclusion:
Rock Star has some good elements and a solid lead. The character foundations are great and it is quite well made. However, the storyline drags this down from potentially being a great movie to just being a good movie to watch every once in a while.
Rent it.
