Saw this movie again on cable just this morning and I remember having liked this somewhat but at the same time feeling a bit disappointed that they cast mark wahlberg for the lead part. I have nothing against mark wahlberg, in fact, he's an okay actor in my book.

but I felt that the role needed a little more "rock star" attitude and I thought that mark wahlberg, having been a rapper in his younger days when he was known as marky mark, just didn't fit the role.

the first time I saw this film, the rocker in me questioned his capability, "what does he know about rock 'n roll? he never listened to it growing up and he never liked the genre...blah blah blah".

I guess i've always felt that someone like heath ledger would have been more suitable or someone who's interested in rock music at least. I just couldn't imagine "marky mark" donning a leather suit, having long flowing hair and headbanging like an idiot.

but the movie is not about mark wahlberg or his anti-rock image, rather it's about the reality that rock bands face in the music industry. izzy and steel dragon's story is not that uncommon. famous rock bands really did go through this sort of ordeal.

I like the way the movie took bits and pieces of reality from real bands and incorporate them into the plot. mark wahlberg may not be my first choice for izzy but he'll do.
