Review of Rock of Ages (2012) by Mloy X — 12 Apr 2013
The movie banked on little more than the costumes of Cruise, Baldwin, Brand, and Giamatti, some kinda cool sets and lighting/camera angles, and familiar songs. You'd probably have to be a really big fan of the songs to enjoy the movie, which the plot and characters are completely lifeless vehicles to deliver, and I can't say I was particularly impressed by any singing other than Mary J Blige's, who doesn't even show up until about 80 minutes in.
By the time we'd gotten to 90 minutes we'd had enough. Brand and a monkey named Hey Man deliver some laughs, not nearly enough. Completely hacked plot and unengaging lead characters.
