For some reason, it's hard for musicals to transition to film. Rock of Ages, unfortunately, continues that sad tradition. If you've seen the original, the plot remains unchanged: A young girl from Oklahoma travels to Los Angeles to fulfill her dream of being a singer.

This film boasts an impressive and insanely diverse cast. There are plenty of songs, but most of them are merely time passers.....Except for a few. By that, I turn the attention to Tom Cruise. His performance gets a solo star and his singing gets another.

Tom Cruise not only nails the role, he rocks it. No one would've guessed that Tom Cruise would be good at singing, but damn is he good. Everyone else does well, impressive considering the singing was filmed and not pre-recorded and then dubbed.

However, the film, for some unconceivable reason, actually plays it more serious than it should've been, which is a complete and total letdown and bore. The two hour run time feels like an eternity.

Overall, there isn't much reason for this film outside of Tom Cruise's unbelievably incredible performance.
