Review of Rock of Ages (2012) by Galvy F — 22 Aug 2015
I love this movie. I take it all : the auto-tuned-to-the-max performances, Diego Boneta´s Mickey Mouse Club feel, Julianne Hough´s country voice. I embrace all of them. You see, this movie was a bit of a slow burner for me.
What won me over in the movie were the performances, and I don´t mean Tom Cruise (necessairily). Take Paul Giamatti and Alec Baldwin, for example: both are right on the money here. Unlike the wannabe-teenage protagonists, they are self-aware of the pure, unadultared dumb fun that "Rock Of Ages" is.
Also, I´m not going to lie: some of the musical numbers do sound good. Tom Cruise´s take on "Wanted Dead Or Alive" or any of Mary J. Blige´s screentime serve as testimony to that.
