Review of Rocco and His Brothers (1960) by Mattin B — 25 Aug 2010
Like many Italian films of the era, it's dark in subject matter, kind of miserable and seems not to really be about much, yet it's probably one of the deepest neo-realistic films you're ever likely to see.
Thought-provoking on so many levels, at times reminiscent of a Shakespearean tragedy or an opera. Occasionally spellbinding and even at 3hrs, it is never boring. Un capolavoro.
