Review of Robots (2005) by Vinny C — 28 Aug 2009
I know I'm thinking about this too much... But... what universe do these robots live in? Is it in a sort of post apocalypse where the humans are all dead and the robots carry on in their image? There are toilet robots wandering around! Someone must shi...... ahem yeah anyway..
Not a bad CGI movie, the robot designs here are more clockwork/retro than advanced, and the whole world is like a big colorful wind up toy with some lovely detail, this is where the film is at its best.. However, the plot is very stale 'seen it all before' stuff, the humor while occasionally giggle worthy is not appropriate to the subject or very clever (Robots doing smelly farts? What???) Some characters work far better than others.... ok they are all better than Robin Williams' Fender, who is irritating, un-funny and looks like a demented coffee pot... So its all a bit of short lived shallow fun but nothing to bother Pixar....
