Review of Robots (2005) by Ajmal K — 24 May 2010
I bought this movie primarily because I thought James would really like it, but it turns out I end up watching it more than he does! The story is pretty cool. A young robot from Rivet Town named Rodney dreams of growing up one day and becoming an inventer, just like his idol Bigweld.
When Rodney gets a bit older and his father is suffering because they can't get hold of a replacement part, he sets out for Robot City to hopefully gain an audience with Bigweld and show him one of his inventions.
When Rodney gets to Bigweld Industries though, he finds the gates barred and Bigweld himself is nowhere to be found. Rodney then uncovers a plot by an evil robot named Ratchet, who is now in control of Bigweld Industries.
Ratchet plans on discontinuing all replacement parts so that older robots will just rust away in to obscurity. Rodney also manages to befriend a quirky robot named Fender, and all of his other bot friends.
Together they make a final stand against Ratchet and his tyranny in the very heart of Bigweld Industries! This was a fantastic movie as a whole. It had a cool story that was a bit different, the animation was really well done, and the cast of voice talent was enormous.
It had the pre-requisite humour for adults that these kid movies need to get by these days also. Another solid addition to our library!
