Review of Robots (2005) by Simon A — 17 Mar 2012
It may not be as inventive or as original as Blue Skies first film, Ice Age but I think Robots is a delightful film for children.
In a world populated by Robots, an idealistic robot named Rodney Copperbottom (Ewan McGregor) who idolizes Bigweld (Mel Brooks), a master inventor and owner of Bigweld Industries. After Rodney gets himself and his father (Stanley Tucci) into trouble at work, he decides to leave his family, go to Robot City with his invention see Bigweld and get a job as an inventor so that he can help his family.
When Rodney arrives in Robot city he meets an eccentric robot called Fender (Robin Williams) and his friends and learns that Bigweld Industries has been taken over by Phineas T. Ratchet (Greg Kinnear) and is about to discontinue the manufacture of spare parts. With the help of his new friends and a beautiful robot-executive of the company named Cappy (Halle Berry) Rodney sets out to stop Rachets evil scheme and to make a difference.
Even though the plot is predictable and treading over the same grounds as Monsters, Inc. its powerful and has enough humor and wit to stand on its own. The animation is beautiful, the score is whimsical, its sweet, it big hearted and the vocal performances do a great job.
An entertaining animated film even if its plot lacks originality. Please comment.
