Ooooooooh shiny!

Tired of CG movies yet?

The Story: A young robot sets out on a journey to the big city in search of a famous inventor and parts manufacturer... Here's the deal, the story breaks down down into something simple little guy big dreams, and it's yet another CG movie... And it's a little bit of an acquired taste. The animation is great, the character design is interesting, and there's a number of other interesting ideas at play here. The question is, does all that make for a good movie? The answer... Maybe... The humor is hit or miss with some intelligent jokes here, and some really really crude humor there, and while the art style is something new and interesting, it often times just comes off as cluttered.

The Cast: Ewan McGregor, Robin Williams... There's a lot of others in here but these are the two most important and the most interesting... Ewan McGregor is Rodney Copperbottom, the little robot with the biggest dreams in the world. He's not the most original character in the world nor is he the best voice in the world, but he gets the job done. Robin Williams is Fender, the obnoxious robot with a heart of gold... Or steel... Or whatever robot hearts are made of... It's not his best voice work to date, but he outshines McGregor by a long shot.

One to Five Scale: 3.

Mediocre voice work, cluttered art style, and somewhat generic characters don't make for a great movie... Consider renting it, but it's probably best just to wait for it to show up in TV listings.
