Review of Robots (2005) by Paul C — 02 Dec 2009
It seems that films like this come out all the time - and somebody needs to tell the executive decision makers that just throwing a load of very famous voices into the mix doesn't make a good story, they should have learned that from Shark Tale - which whilst it had an all star cast wasn't a patch on Finding Nemo.
And this is another fairly amusing, but incredibly bland animation in which something happens and everyone deals with it. It has a paddling pool's worth of emotional depth and whilst the characters are likable the whole thing is a bit predictable.
It was a bit like watching Cars again, I wanted to care - I really did, but I couldn't muster up the enthusiasm. Animators need to spend time investing in storylines, quality writing and spend less money on getting people like Robin Williams in.
Robin Williams is of course absolutely brilliant; but even he can't create something out of a whole pile of nothing. This film was robotic in the literal sense of the word, very predictable, repetitive and with no real heart.
A fun way to waste an hour and a half but don't expect anything special.
