Review of Robot & Frank (2012) by Max H — 27 Jan 2013
Man I never knew a low budget film with a plot like this could bring tears to a man's eyes. Actor Frank Langella takes all the weight on this film because it is basically all about him, he is the man in the spotlights at all times.
For that, I must applaud for his spectacular performance. The relationship between an old man close to death and a newly fabricated robot, it is almost like a metaphor for old mixing with new. It also shows how a man can grow so fond of a machine, how he can grow along with a machine that is not alive, it is something few directors are able to achieve in their lifetime.
Yet this director has been able to crack it open. The movie contains a lot of sentiment scenes especially the ending. However what surprises me the most is that is barely needed 90 minutes to conjure such an emotional tale, most movies take 2 hours to develop something that doesn't even begin to reach this movie's heights.
All in all Robot And Frank is one of those movies that I can watch in 20 years and feel the same way I did right now.
