Review of Robot & Frank (2012) by Gary N — 09 Feb 2013
An amusing and slightly futuristic drama about a "retired" jewel thief suffering from alzheimers, who is given a robot carer to help maintain his independence. What starts out with a resentful old man, whose distrust of modern technology and anger at his own situation-develops into a buddy movie of sorts. Frank realises the potential of using the robot to get back into the game-reigniting memories of his old life as a top notch thief.
The robot recognises the act of planning a burglary helps to exercise Frank's mind and gets him out of the house.
The film has a gentle, no rush charm and something of a reveal towards the end, An enjoyable, if not revelatory film, with good performances from Langella, Sarandon and Marsden particularly.
