Review of Robot & Frank (2012) by Alex A — 06 Aug 2013
A funny, sweet and touching movie, Robot & Frank follows the relationship between a retired burglar and new age robot and how Frank (Frank Langella) returns to the burglar life with the aide of his new robotic helper.
The engagement between the two, which ranges from Franks reluctance to accept his new helper to adopting the robot as a friend and not just an aide, the relationship between the two is heart-warming and moving, all the while adding an element of humour through the robots strict guidelines; which creates humorous banter between the two.
Extra dynamics are added through Frank's relationship with his children and (unbeknownst to him) his ex-wife which bring out his vulnerability through his ageing and apparent mental erosion, which creates an overwhelming array of emotions in the viewer which goes to both ends of the spectrum when watching Frank interact with his family.
A must see and one of the best films to come out this year.
