Review of Robot & Frank (2012) by Art S — 19 Dec 2013
This movie is charming but at the same time it is laced with false notes and some less than stellar acting by secondary characters. Frank Langella stars as an ex-jewel thief who is experiencing cognitive decline or Alzheimer's - his son gives him a robot programmed to look after him and to boost his health.
Yes, this is the near future. There are a number of wryly funny (and even surreal) moments and Langella and the robot do develop an enjoyable camraderie. But again these good moments are strewn across a rather ordinary plot.
However, this can be weighed against the well-judged short running time. So, I'd say it's worth watching, if you keep your expectations low.
