Review of Robot & Frank (2012) by Bob L — 16 Jan 2014
I very much recommend this movie if you like indie films. Frank Langella was excellent as a divorced, retired cat burglar who lives alone out in secluded upstate NY and is suffering from dementia. The time is in the near future and the son decides to buy his dad a homecare robot, whose only concern is Frank's mental and physical well-being. Frank resists the robot, but then comes to realize that the robot actually could help him mentally and physically: as his assistant in getting him out of cat burglar retirement.
There are some funny moments, some sad moments, and some brief pangs as you hope that you never suffer from dementia as you get older. It's frustrating and devastating not just to the sufferer, but to his family.
