Review of Robot & Frank (2012) by Vini R — 16 Dec 2013
Despite the movie's attempts to soften dramatic scenes that could have elevated it to an excellent drama about aging and the disparity of humans and technology, Frank Langella's performance as an elderly man dealing dementia is so spectacular that it makes this one of the most endearing movies about very real issues.
Even though Langella is pitted against a robot, Peter Sarsgaard voices the co-star with such charm, wit and presence, that the dynamic relationship between the two graces the movie with most of its touching moments.
Not only does this movie provide enough indie-quirkiness to keep even the most blockbuster-loving viewers a tow, but provides great insight into family, love and relationships as life progresses. It's fluff enough not to overwhelm anyone, but will definitely stick with you, even if only long enough to ponder what it means to feel and be alive.
