Review of RoboCop (2014) by Ben T — 17 Jan 2015

Robocop is a 1980's classic, filled with over the top action, social commentary and great dark comedy. I love it and it's one of my all time favourite movies of all time. The movie is loved by pretty much everyone so someone had the bright idea to remake it.

I wasn't looking forward to this movie it just looked generic and forgettable and that's exactly what the film is. You know remaking Robocop wasn't entirely crazy as there was elements involving Murphy's family that wasn't touched on in the first film.

The cast in the movie is phenomenal, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish and Samuel L Jackson who as you can probably guess from the trailer plays angry black men who yells the obvious.

The acting is all good except for Joel Kidman who was very boring and wooden which was a big shame. The PG-13 wasn't that annoying although Murphy's death in this movie was so bland when compared to the ultra violent death in the original.

The action is also extremely forgettable instead of having his awesome hand gun from the first he now has a taser which leaves little impact and when he does use a real handgun the action is even more bland.

But the biggest crime is that the film is ridiculously boring. There was a point where I was almost falling asleep which is not what should happen in an action movie. The villains are also dreadful we get a man who's name I can't remember who at first seems like a poor mans Clarence Bodicker, and then spoiler alert Michael Keaton who has been an asshole throughout the film becomes the villain and it's awful.

At the end of the day I'm not suprised this film bombed it's so boring and terrible I would not recommend it. C-.
