Review of RoboCop (2014) by Carolyn W — 08 Aug 2014
Very much lacking the real gritty shitty Detroit feeling of the original. Doesn't do a great job of making you feel that society is really in need of a 'Robocop'. The set up to take out Murphy comes to quick to really give the human character depth, yet the 1st half of the movie, i.e. the origin establishment seems to take forever before some good ass kicking action starts up. Not enough ass kicking mind you (no crotch shot do a deserving attacker, no your move creep). noticeable non R rated action - dissappointly. I liked the suit upgrades (this is 2028, in the eyes of 2013 foreshadowing so that's to be expected). The use of the visior allows kinnaman s acting to come through some more. However th e family story misses the mark. As does the brainwashing. Oldman is always good, as in Jackson, Keating to a lesser extent. All of whom a are on the dialing this performance in end of their thespian skills.
All in all a fine check the brain movie that won't raise the pulse beyond 60 bps, but can't help thinking why reboot a cult hit for the masses - go grimey or go home.
