Review of RoboCop (2014) by Taryn F — 16 Aug 2014
Impossible to compare to the original 80's version for many reasons, but mainly since the original RoboCop is the archetype for all cyborg or man in robotic suits movies to follow, ala GI Joe & Iron Man.
Also, the rated R hard violence version will always be hard to compete with, especially 80's gore violence vs realistic violence we see in movies these days. They do attempt to refresh/reboot the story somewhat, but ultimately, this movie falls victim to its own existence; Meaning, the only reason a studio pulls one of its classics off the shelf, is because they are looking for the next "franchise" which means the under 17 yrs of age demo, which needs toys on shelves to help drive awareness & marketing costs to justify the magic word every studio in Hollywood wants to hear, "SEQUELS"! Or simply, this movie suffers from it's PG-13 rating, very water down, even in today's market.
Entertaining in parts, but a total waste of the use of Samuel L. Jackson in a movie like this especially.
