Review of RoboCop (2014) by Richard R — 12 Jan 2015
Remakes are becoming more and more popular, especially of famous eighties movies and while RoboCop didn't necessarily need bringing back to the big screen I was excited to see what new CGI and actors could bring to the table.
While it does not have the same violent action of the original and manages to cut out one of the more interesting relationships of the original - that of RoboCop and his new female partner - it does have many redeeming qualities.
More time is spent on the building of RoboCop and there's far more focus upon his psyche and state of mind throughout - as well as posing questions about the nature of thought and what makes us ourselves.
Gary Oldman is in fine form throughout the film, as is Samuel L. Jackson as a sleazy presenter. While it will never quite reach the enjoyability of the original, it still is well worth a watch and maybe more than one.
