Review of RoboCop (2014) by Alex A — 07 Mar 2015
I wish I had seen this in the theaters. I made the mistake of listening to the reviews. This movie, compared to the original, is nothing short of amazing. Don't get me wrong, at the time, I enjoyed the original.
This movie adds about 20x the depth of the first one. Samuel L Jackson's role was fantastic. His portrayal of a media propagandist was spot on. You definitely got the sardonic message buried in his over-the-top display of pushing for more government control.
Michael Keeton's role as the CEO of omnicorp took a flat character and gave him significant depth. While Gary Oldman's character seemed to remind me of his commissioner Gordon character, he still took a 'villain' and gave him so much depth that it was hard to be anything but sympathetic.
Yes, there was a lack of high paced action in this story of the creation of robocop. However, it tells a very believable story of how something like this could actually come to pass. This is probably one of the closest a movie ever came to telling a story the way a book tells a story.
