Review of RoboCop (2014) by William F — 25 Nov 2015
Don't get me wrong, for a common moviegoer or for anyone who just wants a fun little ride, this is a fine watch. But it's a very disappointing reboot to the original film series. I'm glad I watched it, but chances are I won't be seeing it again for a long time.
This movie just feels like this was someone trying to do something incredible, but was always being limited by interventions from either the writer, or the Studio...it feels like there's a great movie trying to come out of there, but the Studio (or whoever was in charge) kept pulling it back into this film that's all about shoving its messages in our faces (no subtlety and no time to comprehend and think for ourselves).
Here, the film's message is constantly everywhere: constantly in your face, yelling it out loud, always repeating it. Never giving us the chance to just think about it and make deeper connections, but instead always telling us what we're supposed to see.
Where was the subtlety? The clever presentation? The visuals that could show us those divisions in society and crime? I honestly didn't see any of it. An average movie, nothing more and nothing less.
