Review of RoboCop (2014) by Phil S — 11 Jul 2016
Love the new Robocop armour. It has some great ideas, but this film struggles to decide what kind of movie it wants to be. Also, the 12A certificate is what fans didn't want. Everything that made the original brilliant, is gone. No quotable lines, no satire, no characters you can root for.
Robocop 1987 was basically a revenge movie, but also touched on the human soul. Murphy is murdered horribly, and is unwittingly resurrected and transformed into a cyborg saviour of the city.
Robocop 2014 touches on drone use, and accountability of machines taking life, which is a good premise. However, as an entertaining, crowd pleaser, it simply doesn't work.
