Review of RoboCop (2014) by Shadiac1985 — 19 Dec 2015
What I don't get is why so many people give it a negative score only because it doesn't look or feel like the 1987 movie? So what? A reboot of the franchise is not a remake, these are two different things. When the franchise gets rebooted, it borrows an only theme but brings it into the actual setting. Watch the 1958 "The Thing" and Carpenter's movie. That's how you do a reboot. Now watch the 2011 garbage and that's how you do a bad remake. See the difference?
This movie is more kid-friendly than the 1987 flick. So what? You'll get to see all the same basic plots: a good cop gets turned into a cyborg, he has his doctor assistant, a big corporate meanie, a caring co-worker, a former wife and kid... But, unlike the straight-to-the-point 1987 flick, this one also shows us how simple men are torn between following orders and being human. This movie seriously doesn't deserve such low scores, it's better that the remake of "Judge Dredd" (and I mean, really better!) plus it ends on a good note of Murphey reuniting with his family, unlike the dystopian 1987 flick where he ends up accepting he's a cyborg or something.
And by the way - an outstanding performance by both Kinnaman and Keaton. Was really worth it.
