Review of RoboCop (2014) by Scarlett T — 27 Mar 2015
Great action movie. Maintains all the important elements of the original such as the main theme, catch phrases like "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" and "I'd buy that for a dollar", and they even keep the satirical elements on American society and how we interpret news and current events through shock media and television.
The thing about this movie that makes it better than the original for me is that the action is far better, the suit and special effects are better, and most importantly, they didn't have Alex Murphy act like a robot.
Robocop is a CYBORG, not a full on robot. While Peter Weller's performance in the original was great, he played him too robotically and didn't give a whole lot of depth to his character. In the reboot, he's still very much Alex Murphy and has human reactions like fear, anger, and love for his family.
It made the story much more enjoyable. When you watch it, you WILL see the Robocop you remember from 1985, but you'll also see them take it a step further and elaborate on things and make it even better.
