Review of RoboCop (2014) by Scott W — 03 Sep 2014

Alright so this wasn't as bad I expected but I still have problems with this remake. For one the grittiness of the original is completely gone and Toronto makes a piss poor Detroit. I liked that the remake went for something different instead of being a retread of the original but it comes across as heavy-handed and plays things way too safe. The performances are strong overall but the family drama elements are incredibly half-baked and fall flat.

Overall this was a movie that desperately needed an R rating. It lacks the biting satire and brutal violence of the original and ends up being rather toothless. This is probably still worth watching but if you haven't seen the excellent original just watch that.
