Review of RoboCop 2 (1990) by Shane D — 13 Jun 2011
On repeat viewings, the Robocop films (well at least the first 2) are a lot smarter than my memory had ever given them credit for. Sure, there is plenty of ridiculous moments of violence, cheap one liners and in the case of Robocop 2, PLENTY of bad over-acting.
In a way though, all of these things are what makes it pretty damn good. Some of the stop motion animation hasnâ(TM)t held up too great but overall the vintage R-ratedness of this can still be thoroughly enjoyed.
Once again, the fake commercials interspersed throughout are hilarious and help give the franchise its strong âsocial commentaryâ? reputation. But then again, it is also just a film with a robot-man kicking some serious ass and blowing up/squashing/shooting/decapitating a whole bunch of bad guys.
..so lets not get too academic about it! Great little 90s classic.
