Review of RoboCop 2 (1990) by Felix M — 11 May 2012
They got so many elements right: a returning cast, social satire advertisements, strong criminal element and goal for Murphy to deal with, integrating Murphy into the squad as a regular cop and his old partner, exploration of how criminals could deal with the new threat and some real danger for the cyborg... and yet it misfires.
The lead villain is underwhelming especially as his kid sidekick is far more interesting and the Robocop 2 machine just uninspired compared to ED-209 ( I would have liked to see ED implanted with a brain and see how that went), the satire is lame and nowhere near as sharp or developed and lacking the iconic scenes that marked the original.
