Review of RoboCop 2 (1990) by Philip L — 17 Feb 2014
RoboCop 2 doesn't know what kind of movie it is. The original Robo had it's share of humour, but it's sequel has a large amount more, and it works, but the filmmakers didn't know how to balance it with the action and drama as much as the previous instalment did, making it seem at points like an Action-Comedy, and at other points just straight up Action.
There are a lot of plot points they go over in Robocop 2 that we didn't get to in the first, like just how human Robo/Murphy really is, but that whole point is dropped after the first act or so to make room for more action.
Robocop 2 is a decent flick, no doubt. There are a few flaws, especially "Robocop 2" himself, but the action's exciting and the humour (especially the commercials) work, so it's an entertaining sequel.
Obviously it's not the original. I never thought it could be as great as that and it isn't, but it isn't that bad.
