Review of RoboCop 2 (1990) by Michael V — 19 Feb 2011
I was shocked when I saw the reviews for this film.
I first saw Robocop when I was three years old, and then saw Robocop 2 and Robocop 3. I hate three, but I always liked one and two.
So imagine my surprise when I came on here a couple months ago, and found that Robocop 2 did not have as much positive reviews from both fans and critics.
I honestly don't know why. In my opinion, this film is almost as good as the first.
The second film starts a little after the first. Robocop is still dealing with being a machine. One day on the job, he is destroyed by a group of criminals who are all drug lords. The company who owns the police department and the city, the same company who made Robocop, OCP, doesn't want to fix Robocop because they're planning on building a new more advanced cyborg called "Robocop 2.".
Because Robocp is offline and the police are on strike, crime raises in the city. However, Robocop is eventually rebuilt and as soon as he is back on his feet, he organizes all the cops and launches a strike on the drug lords hideout. The head leader named Cain is deadly injured.
OCP decides to use Cain as their next Robocop. He is a lot bigger then the original Robocop, and has a lot more deadly weapons. Robocop discovers that OCP has been using Robocop 2 for corrupt deeds, and when he goes after them, Robocop 2 attacks. All the city can do is watch as the two go at each other in battle.
Reviews were mixed from critics, some saying that the whole movie is filled with half-baked ideas, while a lot of them said that it just doesn't deal with the issues that Robocop had in the first film, like the struggle of being a human within a machine.
I think the film is good, which is why I think it deserves a fresh rating.
