Review of RoboCop (1987) by Cody C — 30 Jul 2011
It's got script problems (the third act is very weak) but you can't not love this movie. You absolutely, 100% feel for Robocop. And the concept is brilliant. The best way to watch this is as a satire of not just 80's culture, but the superhero genre as well.
Robocop dares to make the case that superheroes are on the autistic spectrum. They have no heart, no soul, no anima. It is sick that we look up to them. The real hero in life is the person who has experienced loss, sadness, death of a dream, etc.
, and chooses to stand up for what's right despite all that. This is probably my favorite superhero movie of all time, despite its shortcomings. The message is brilliant, and I think this is a very necessary movie especially in contrast to the cookie-cutter shit sandwich Superhero movies we're flooded with every year.
Plus, it's got a great sense of humor, which is something that seems to have vanished entirely from Superhero movies (except for Iron Man.).
