Review of RoboCop (1987) by Stephen E — 02 Jan 2012
"RoboCop" is not only a hell of an actioneer, but also one of the finest (and goriest) examples of science-fiction in cinema. Paul Verhoeven has a knack for creating these kinds of films -- these dysotopian thrillers that border on stupidity most of time but never manage to take themselves too seriously -- and I have to say, he's very good at it.
Like "Total Recall" and "Starship Troopers", "RoboCop" is humorous, gruesome, well-directed, satiric, and features some magnificent special effects and makeup. It's a wild and exciting ride, but I feel like the notoriety it gained for Murphy's death scene is undeserved.
That scene is violent, but certainly not the most violent of the entire movie.
