Review of RoboCop (1987) by Neil D — 04 Dec 2013
Police drama, dystopian science-fiction and biting satire are masterfully blended in Verhoeven's RoboCop. It never forgets what makes its main character human, while also delivering fantastic action sequences.
While adequately casted, believeable scriptwriting and performances add to character dynamics and development. Peter Weller and Nancy Allen make a fine duo.
To this day, the special and sound effects hold up, and at times they can even make scenes feel terrifying (in a good way). Also, the music compliments the action in very heroic ways. RIP Basil Poledouris.
Other than a slight framing issue upon seeing the movie in 16:9 ratio, everything great about this movie makes up for just about any minor shortcomings the movie might have. It's funny, it's scary, it's action-packed, and it's also deeply moving.
